Tim Holtz Extravaganza 2012, Part 1

Tim Holtz was back in town the weekend of April 21st & 22nd. I was fortunate enough, again, to be able to take all his classes. Over the next several posts you will get to experience part of this weekend with me. And maybe it will entice you to take a class of your very own when he is in your area!

Don't let anyone fool you, this is the REAL Tim!

This was our first class project on Saturday. Lots of fun, and it even rolls!!
Back story: Tim was talking about how some people just don't "get" art.
They would look at something like this and ask "What is it?"
And you say "Art."
And they say "What do you do with it?"
And you say "You look at it."
And they say "But what does it do?"
And you say "Nothing."
And then they get this quizzical look on their face....
So, Tim added wheels and a pull string to this one so it would do something:
ROLL!!

Xpistos Avesti! Happy Greek Easter!

Xpistos Avesti = Christ has Risen!
Alithos Avesti = Truly He has Risen!

Today is Greek Easter, also known as Pascha, also known as Eastern Orthodox Easter. For those in the know, the pics below will definitely be familiar! Xpovia Polla to all my family and friends, and may this truly blessed day find all in good health!

Icon of the Resurrection of Christ

Candles are lit in Orthodox churches Saturday night at midnight, proclaiming the resurrection of Christ and  that "light has now defeated darkness". If you are in Greece the "fire" lighting your candle is from the Holy Light that appears miraculously at the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. If you are in other parts of the world the candlelight has been blessed prior to passing it to the congregation.

Red eggs at Pascha (Easter) symbolize the resurrection of Christ. The red color serves to remind us of the precious blood of God the Redeemer, which was shed on the cross for the salvation of all men. There is also a miracle related to Mary Magdalene and the "red" color of the eggs.

Lamb is a traditional food served on Pascha, Easter Sunday. And yes, Greeks know that lamb IS meat, contrary to what you may remember from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding!"

Greek Independence Day- March 25th

Today is Greek Independence Day, and I just wanted to post something to commemorate this special occasion.
Parade participants portraying Greek Evzones, the ceremonial Greek National Guard.
The Greek Evzones have purely ceremonial duties. The best-known is the symbolic guarding of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Syntagma Square. There are also guards at the Presidential Mansion and at the gate of the barracks of the Presidential Guard.

Mini Toilet Paper Roll Tag Book

One of our favorite doctors is retiring at the end of this month and I made him a special book with all the quotes we told him during his retirement party. This is the cover of that book. Later I'll post more pics and a tuturial of how to make a Mini Tag book using toilet paper rolls.

Valentine Card w/Pennants

This tag was made for a Scrappy-Bowl Challenge that was issued on Super Bowl Sunday by Kathryn Scraps. The challenge was to make something with a flag or a pennant...

Alas, I was not able to get this silly picture to load so I missed the deadline by 2 minutes!! Sounds like there was a flag on that play!!

Valentine Grid Tag

This tag was made for a Scrappy-Bowl Challenge that was issued on Super Bowl Sunday by Kathryn Scraps. The challenge was to make something with a grid...

Great News!!! This cute little tag won me a Martha Stewart Border Punch. Can't wait to get it and start using it!  Thanks Kathryn!!

On the "blog" again

I have decided to rejoin the blogging community. Mostly to have a site to host pics I need for other things, but we will see how it goes from here. You never know!!
