Greek Independence Day- March 25th

Today is Greek Independence Day, and I just wanted to post something to commemorate this special occasion.
Parade participants portraying Greek Evzones, the ceremonial Greek National Guard.
The Greek Evzones have purely ceremonial duties. The best-known is the symbolic guarding of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Syntagma Square. There are also guards at the Presidential Mansion and at the gate of the barracks of the Presidential Guard.

  1. Thanks, thea. I did not know Archbishop Demetrios was invited to the White House. It is good to see honor and respect is given to our nation since we have truly given the US its beginnings of democracy. Actually, I believe it was Benjamin Franklin and others who when voting for the nation's language...voted to have Ancient Greek as the primary language. I guess the other forefathers did not realize how valuable this would have been for them, and instead chose to keep the language they learned first, English. In any case, Happy Greek Independence Day! Zito h Ellas!
